What are the class sizes at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School?

Class sizes are 36 in grade K and 38 in grades first through eighth. To ensure the highest quality education, and to maintain a student to teacher ratio of less than 20 to one, grades K through fifth have instructional assistants in each classroom. Grades six through eight are departmentalized; the students rotate classrooms during the school day in preparation for high school.

Does St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School require service hours?

To encourage parental involvement and to keep tuition costs down, SFA School requires parents to contribute 30 service hours per year, per family; purchase $4,000 of scrip per year; and participate in school fundraisers.

How can I set up a conference with my child’s teacher?

We encourage parents desiring longer conferences than those scheduled by the school, or those who desire to meet with the teacher at other times throughout the year, to call the school office to arrange an appointment.

Does St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School offer hot lunches?

Yes, we offer delicious and nutritious lunches Monday through Friday. We offer pizza for lunch every Monday, and the proceeds from “Pizza Monday” support the sixth grade environmental education program. Food for Thought provides our meals Tuesday through Friday; you may order those meals online.

What do I do if my child is tardy or absent?

Absences and tardiness disrupt a child’s ability to learn effectively. Any student who arrives at school after 8:00 a.m. must receive a tardy slip from the office before reporting to his/her classroom. If your child will be absent from school, please call the school office before 8:00 a.m. A student who has been absent must present a written excuse (with a parent signature) stating the reason for his/her absence. The note must be in the parent’s handwriting and give the dates and reason for the absence. We also encourage you to schedule doctor, dentist, and other appointments during non-school hours.

What is the dress code at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School?

We believe that our students' appearance is an important part of the learning environment; that is why our students wear uniforms. Our uniform guidelines and free dress guidelines are explained in the Family Handbook. As members of the student body, all students represent the image of St. Francis of Assisi at school and in the community. Because of this, there are regulations pertaining to their appearance.

What books and supplies do I need to provide for my child?

St. Francis of Assisi School provides all textbooks and workbooks as part of the annual registration fee. Students are responsible for the care of all books and must return them at the end of the year in the best possible condition. Students and parents are responsible for obtaining and maintaining their own basic school supplies such as paper, pencils, etc.

What if my child requires medication or becomes ill at school?

If your student has a medical condition that you would like the school to know about, please provide such details in writing to the school office and to the classroom teacher. All medications must be stored in the school office. If your student is injured or becomes ill at school, we will contact you immediately. If we are unable to reach you, the school will contact another adult listed on your child’s emergency contact card, so please keep this information up-to-date.
